SP

My best friend since fourth grade came to visit for four days. It wasn’t till I saw her that I realized how much I had missed her. Of course we still skyped ever since she left, which was a year ago, so she hasn’t missed much ever since. On Friday May 26, 2011, which was when she came to visit, she stayed at my house, and we talked about everything we could think of, we saw movies, and we took pictures. The next day we went to a party, and slepped over a friends house, and then on Sunday we went to another friend’s house, watched a movie, talked, ate and hanged out until 8:30pm which was when I took her to her hotel. However I didn’t know that, that was the last time I was going to see her after she went back home. We both thought we were going to see each other again one last time, but unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to. So now I’m missing her more than ever, since I didn’t have the chance to say good bye to her before she left. Hopefully she’ll come and visit again, or I’ll go visit her, since although its been a year since she last moved I can’t stand not seeing her anymore, and not being able to tell her my problems face to face.

Soul Surfer

Last weekend, on Sunday my friends and I hanged out and watched a movie called, Soul Surfer. It was about a girl who, ever since she was born loved the sea and wanted to become a professional surfer, since her parents, both of them, were great surfers. However over the years she accomplished her goal. Except for one day while she was with her friends, surfing, a shark ate her whole arm. At first she didn’t react to it, and didn’t mind missing an arm. But then she realized how important it was, and how challenging it became to surf. Therefor with practice she was able to make the challenge a daily routine, and learn how to live/surf with it. However, after watching this movie I felt the need to be great full for everything I had, since I’m the type of girl who doesn’t realize that there are many people out there who suffer for unimaginable things. I guess this movie and many movies exist to open our eyes and make us realize the importance of being able to live happy and learn from our mistakes, and be great full for the life you have.

Life Cycle

4162463209_e9f364492f.jpgWow it’s almost been a year, since the last time I saw my grandma and two years since I last saw my uncle. 2009-2010 were very intense summers, vacations, moments, and memories. I remember 2009 when my uncle ended up in the hospital and passed away on June 5th the last week of school and then the year after, June 14 2010 while my parents, my sister and I were already in los Roques during vacation which were staying only for one night, we receive a call from my uncle saying my grandma had passed away. I had never gone through those sorts of moments in which you see everybody in your family sad, depressed, and laconic, but worst of all, happening two years in a row. I definitely wouldn’t want that to happen this year or the next or any time soon. I know someday we will all leave and go to a better place/paradise but for now I think it’s better to stay in planet earth. There are times when I wonder why it had to happen? Or at least why two times in a row? And why to the people I love? I wish I could at least see them once in a while so I don’t have the feeling that I’m going to forget them or that they are with me. I guess there is no way of controlling the way life is, and the way the life cycle works.

Goodbye ninth grade Hello tenth grade

goodbye.jpg
As the days go by, summer approaches. I can’t believe how my freshman year flew by so fast. Luckily we aren’t “planktons” anymore, like our ancient civ. Teacher would call us, and tell us we were on the bottom of the food chain. Now we are sophomores which make us a bit more special. Although I should be happy summer is coming in almost a week I don’t want school to end. I guess that being a freshman wasn’t that bad since the spotlight was always on us, and my grade became much closer. Also many of my closest friends are leaving, and I don’t think I can handle their goodbye on the last day of school; just thinking we might not see each other again makes me want to return to the beginning of ninth grade. Nevertheless the job of an international school is for people to come and go, although A LOT of my classmates and students will leave in almost a week hopefully in 10th grade many people will come, and fill in the empty spaces. However another reason why I don’t want school to end is because finals are going to happen the last week of school. I remember that in middle school and in elementary the last week of school was fun, there was no homework, no tests, no projects, and no nothing. But once you reach high school the real work begins, dead week and finals. Sometimes I just wish time could go a bit slower.

Heartache?!?

I had no idea, that one of my best friends was about to become something else, something that I desired, the person who I wished to be with. It is not like I wanted to be next to him 24/7 but I enjoy talking to him even though it wasn’t face to face, because it felt like we were, that’s how easy it was to talk to him.  Although it took a long time for me to admit that I actually liked him, it was worth the try to believe it.  Unluckily it didn’t last as long as I thought it would, I guess we were both very shy, I guess we were both better off as friends, and I guess we were both not supposed to last… who knows?  However even though it actually lasted about a week or two I don’t regret anything, I’ve probably never met and never will meet a guy as special and sensitive as him, I probably did a mistake, but whatever is said it’s done. Maybe we didn’t see each other as much and the feelings were confused for a friendly type of love. But ever since the beginning of out story, there’s been that sort of someone in the way, and I think it’s better off if we leave stuff like it is and I just step out of the way.

JUST KIDDING!

What are Words- Chris Medina

What Are Words by Chris Medina is a song that reflects on what the composer is going through in his daily life. The composer, Chris Medina auditioned for American Idol this year, and the main reason why he wanted to at least make it to Hollywood was to make his fiancée happy. His fiancée and him have been engaged for almost three years, the reason why it’s been taking so long for them to get married is because she suffered an accident which made her go into a comma for over a month and ended up  with brain damage. The lyrics of the song, are very meaningful, they express how words are promises, which need to be kept. In his case, he kept the promise of them getting married, and he explains that “What kind of guy would I be if I was to leave you when you need me most”. Unluckily he wasn’t accepted in the top 25 in American idol but at least his fiancée was able to meet Jennifer Lopez, Randy and Steve, and she was able to see her fiancée try his best and do whatever it took to be part of the competition, just to make her happy and put a smile on her face.

New Driver in the Family

Since October 2010, my older sister began college, here in Venezuela. Since she was becoming more and more independent, she began to learn how to drive. Over time, she felt the need of a car, or in other words my mom’s car. She wanted to start to drive as soon as possible, so she took her driving classes, and practiced almost every weekend until she gained my parents confidence. After fighting for months and months to finally get my mom’s old car, she did it! On February 2011 they gave her the car. I could notice she loved the sensation, of freedom; she couldn’t wait to go anywhere she could. Now, she is a total pro, I think I can also use it as an advantage, since if my parents can’t take me somewhere… She can!
Then I got myself thinking, in a few years that will be me. Driving, going anywhere I want, returning at any time I want, and having the same sensation of freedom my sister does. But of course, it’s only a faze, wanting to separate from your parents and become more independent. Anyways hopefully I will gain my parents trust easier than my sister, since she had to go through a lot of obstacles and mine are already done.

Memorable Weekend

On January 20th till the 23rd, three friends and I went to the beach. We stayed in Sofi’s house in Caraballeda, then we went to Puerto Azul, which is a club, and then we went to a further beach called, Caruao. We had planned this weekend for days, since it was four day weekend. And what stood out the most was that we became closer friends, we took a bunch of pictures, we got in the pool and in the beach and last but not least we got tanned. But of course, like responsible students Thursday after school we all did our homework, so we didn’t have to worry about it when we got home on Sunday. Unluckily Me Claudia and Isa, the three of us ended up with no cellphones when we came back, except for Sofi! We had all taken our cellphones to the beach because   we had talked to our moms to let them know that we were going to Caruao. Therefore when we arrived in Caruao we put our bags with our cellphones, in a high and unreachable rock, which there was no possibility that a wave could reach that high. However when we were eating some snacks, we notice our bags and towels were floating in the sea… which meant are cellphones were there and had gotten wet. But for some reason the only dry and safe cell phone was Sofi’s. Lucky her right? We were all highly disappointed, but we will never regret that weekend since it was the best of all.

My Spanish Class

Sofi, Sofia, Victoria, Marco D. Marco M and I are the ones in our Spanish class.  I think I’d consider that class one of the best classes of the year. In that class we learn a lot, but the best part is that we compare everything to our personal life and share our thoughts and opinions which help us learn in a more fun and funny way, and it’s one of the classes that stands out the most, since we are only six people in the class.  Margarita, the Spanish teacher, the first thing she told us the first day of school was that she wanted us to treat her like one of us, and not as a superior person since she was our teacher. She is a very particular teacher, because she says everything she thinks doesn’t care what others think about her, she is very sensitive and gets to know about everything that is going on around school.
My classmates and I always look up to that class. When we get done with our work early, we do the craziest things ever. Last week, we filmed a video of one of our classmates dancing like “SOME” crazy Venezuelans do… I’d love to show the video, but I don’t think the school policy would let me.

Celebrities...

The hottest guy celebrity this year is, Justin Bieber which is 16 years old. The hottest celebrity girl is Selena Gomez which is 18 years old. I’m a really big fan of Justin Bieber, not only because he is hot, but because he has an amazing voice! Ever since Selena Gomez began her career I’ve never liked her as an actress and now even less. The reason why now I dislike her even more is because she is dating Justin Bieber! I mean she is older than him for two years, besides I’m sure I’m not the only fan who disagrees, I’m sure many of his fans do too, but also Justin’s mom since she thinks this will ruin his career.
Justin Bieber became famous 2009-2010 and he became known thanks to Usher because he saw Justin’s videos in YouTube, and thought that he could have a bright future in Hollywood. The song that made him rise to fame was Baby ft. Ludacris. Not only did girls go crazy after hearing and seeing his music video, but even the guys memorized his song. Justin has been criticized since the day he entered Hollywood, for his “girl” voice, but he’s learned to never listen to the haters. Overall Justin Bieber isn’t my only favorite celebrity/ singer, I have much more, but for this blog I chose to write about him. J

No school for two week before winter vacation.

Although having an extremely long winter vacation, because of the rain disasters we had here in Venezuela, it didn’t seem as long as it sounds. Because of the rain we had almost two weeks more than usual without school, but unluckily us high scholars had to take the finals when not having time to review with teachers.  Those two weeks off all of us freshmen were in each other’s houses studding for tests, skyping with each other to finish the homework, or doing something related to school. It was almost like being “homeschooled”.
When we came back from vacations, all the teachers started comparing the winter and summer vacations since they never both last the same amount of time. So since we had extra vacations, now we will have to make up the time missed and instead of Wednesdays ending at 2:00pm some will end at 3:30pm. I think this is unfair, since it’s not like those two weeks we were in vacations because we still had to finish tons of homework online, go visit the teachers for help, and have the finals. Worst of all the Carnival holiday has been rearranged, instead of being on February 7th it’s  going to be on May which sucks since it won’t be almost in two weeks but in like 5!

NB

In school, there is a friend that understands me more than anybody can, even when I can’t even understand myself, I know she can! The reason why I know this is because she has gone through the majority of what I’ve gone through and knows how to handle it more than anybody else.  She is someone that is always happy, hyper, and looks at life with a different perspective. She is someone that doesn’t care about what people thinks about her, and stands up for who she is. Although this is the first year I’ve actually spent more time with, and become closer friends with, she has taught me many things I’m glad I’ve learned.
Every time I have to make a decision, she helps me through it, every time I’m heartbroken she knows exactly what to say or do, and every time I’m sad or dull she knows exactly how to turn my world around. I remember not so long ago, I was really sad for some stupid boy, that wasn’t even worth it; she helped me, not only get over him, but forget about him completely, that same week she asked me “Ale do you want to come to my house, eat a bunch of chocolates, watch a movie and talk about how stupid boy are?” just hearing that from her, made me feel that she actually cared about me and knew how to handle perfectly those kinds of stuff.

Winter/Christmas Vacation Blog

Throughout my whole life, I’ve spent all my winter vacations with family, either in Venezuela or another country. This year 2010-2011, my family and I decided to go on a cruise not only for Christmas, but also to celebrate my grandparents 50 anniversary and my fifteenth birthday. This time, my entire family was completely together, my uncles and cousins from Canada, and my grandparents, uncles, and cousin from here Venezuela.  The cruise we made went throughout the Caribbean and lasted a week, and the following week we went to Orlando.
In the cruise, we stopped by many islands and countries like, Belize, Mexico/ Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Costa Maya. In every country or island we stepped on, we learned a little bit about their history. In the cruise there were many activities available like, ice skating, surfing, wall climbing, karaoke booth, competitions, theater, shopping, and free time. In the first formal dinner night, we celebrated my grandparent 50 anniversary which was the second cruise night, and on the 24 of December, which was another formal night, we celebrated my fifteenth birthday, and later that night Christmas Eve. That was a very memorable night that will be present throughout my entire life.

No School for Three Days

As I mentioned before, I was born in Caracas Venezuela. Best known as the tropical country with the most beautiful beaches. Unfortunately, since the beginning of November, it has rained a lot lately. So much, that school was cancelled for 3 days! Although at first my classmates and I thought it would be fun to not have school, we were completely wrong! Since Tuesday night, teachers have been sending messages, and homework since we are missing those 3 days, and expect us to not go out, since it’s not a “holyday”. Furthermore, Venezuela has not only become more dangerous each day but its bad weather is making things worse.

For next week, when we get back to school, I have to turn in a lab report, a test, a quiz, an essay, a monolog, a project, and a lot of homework. Lately I haven’t been able to complete my homework as fast as before now I take hours, and days to finish them! Many people say, “well, its high school, deal with it!” but then I wonder its actually “only” 9th grade, imagine when we get to 11th and 12th where there are IB exams, and its much harder. The good thing of going back to school on Monday is that we go to Winter break in two weeks, but again the last week we have FINAL EXAMS! Hopefully we’ll end 2010 well… hopefully!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

What do you want to be when you grow up? That is one of the top 10 questions asked when you are small. I always wanted to be a teacher, singer, dancer, and writer, or just somebody important. But now I see what a real teacher is like, what a singer goes through, how a dancer gets hurt, and how a writer needs many ideas. Any job is easy for you when you are small but the easy part goes away ones you know how it’s really like. The top question what do you want to be when you grow up? I have no idea!
Many of my friends have their future sorted out, either they go with their family business, or they are intelligent and happy with what they actually want.  Trying to figure out what you want to be when you grow up is hard because you feel that it’s the only choice you have once you go to college, or at least for me. Of course I’m still a freshmen but time goes by pretty quick. Right now my top choices of what I want to be when I grow up, is a designer, artist, and maybe a doctor. But from three choices to one, that’s an obstacle that might be achieved through time.

Friends

Friends… What are friends? Who are friends? How are friends? How do you know someone is your friend? Well, my friends are, unique, crazy, wild, competitive, bipolar, caring, nice, sarcastic, funny, outgoing, and last but not least the BEST.
My friends are the ones I can always count and trust on, cry and laugh with, play and joke around and always be with. They are the ones that can predict when you’re sad, stressed and obsessed. They are the ones that understand you every time you need them, and their opinion, when you need advice, a friend, a secret, share a gossip, laugh out loud and cry with, in the movies. They may be the ones you party with; you do homework with, sing with, gossip with and sometimes scream with. Friends are the ones that trust your past believe in your future and accept you just the way you are. They are the ones who help you, listen to you, and need you. But friends, that’s a big word and they are the ones that you can find everywhere, everywhere you are, everywhere you go, and everywhere you will be. So friends, you’ll always need in life that’s why I love the ones that are mine.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Studying in an International School

Since I was in Pre-K, I’ve studied in the same school, an international school. What I enjoy the most about it is that you can meet people from all around the world, learn their cultures, and see new students arrive. What I dislike about an international school is that people come and go, and never come back. I’ve lost many friends, but at the same time make new ones. My best friend since fourth grade left last year, and it was the first time I had actually felt the real meaning of losing a friend. I guess they feel the same way when they move, sometimes I think the people that stay are the ones that suffer, but actually I think that it’s harder for the people that move, since they have to say goodbye to all their friends and make a whole new bunch in their new school. Maybe that’s why proms are so sad, since everybody goes to a different collage, where everything is harder, and you might just need a trustful friend.
Sometimes, losing friends isn’t that bad, because you can see them again in some other opportunity, in vacations, parties or some other time. But what I’ve learned through the past years in an international school, is that people come and go just like the cycle of life, and someday everybody will meet again.

"The Middle" T.V Show

On October 19, 2010 was the first time I had ever seen “The Middle” a recent T.V show in, Warner Brothers. The main characters of the show are the Heck’s, a not very common family, they are: Frankie Heck (mom), Mike Heck (dad), Axl Heck (older son), Sue Sue Heck (daughter), and Brick Heck (youngest son).  What happened in last night’s T.V show was, that Christmas was getting closer and Frankie didn’t have time to put the tree, build the city, make a snow man, buy the gifts, and make the food because she wanted to try out and practice for a solo in her choir, since she’s been wanting it for 15 years. So Mike offers to do everything in the Christmas list, and mom gets angry because she also wanted to participate. In conclusion the episode had common family problems but resolved differently.
What I found funny about the show was that Frankie at the beginning of the episode was writing on the family’s blog, and talking about her children’s and husbands problems and secrets, what I found funny was that I’m writing a blog about it! I have to say that I enjoyed this comedy because it made me laugh a lot and I’m willing to keep on watching it and recommend it to other people.

What's Frustrating about High School?

Try this:
-          - Wake up at 6:30
-          - Get to school at 7:40
-          - Learn boring stuff
-          - Have homework, projects, essays, more work
-          - Lunch
-          - School dismissal: 3:30
-          - Get out of school at 5:00
-          - Get stuck in traffic for 1:30
-          - Get home at 6:30
-          - Do homework, projects, more work…
-          - Eat dinner
-          - Go to sleep at 11:00

The list above represents what I have to do every school day. I can’t blame nor school or high school, but… frustration. When I was in Elementary, I couldn’t wait to go to High School, and try projects, and brown shirts, and freedom… But now I can see what it’s really like. In high school we make our own choices, we have more freedom, it’s a cool habitat, and fun… but when it comes to work, there comes the frustrating part! Luckily it will only be for 3 ½ more years, guess I can live with it.

"Los Roques"

In the summer of 2010 my family and I went to “Los Roques” a small island in Venezuela that took me half an hour to get there from Caracas. Not only did I go with my family, but met there with some friends! June 12, 2010 was the first time visiting the most beautiful beach that I have ever seen in my life with crystal clear water, coral sand, and perfect weather.
The day we arrived, we met with our friends and got on a boat the led us towards another beach, where we got amazingly tanned. Later that day we climbed up a mountain where an old and small castle was located, and took advantage of some good pictures. The following and last day we ate breakfast, met once again with our friends and a smaller boat took us to another beach where we got to see Sea Turtles, and Sea Stars.
When we arrived home, with the reddest tan I have ever had, I was blown away to see one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and with the pride of being located in my own country.
